Hello customers, High Rise Community Bakery will be pausing our operations at the end of this year. Last orders can be placed before 9.30am on Monday the 18th of December 2023. If you have any questions, please email cass@cultivatingcommunity.org.au or info@cultivatingcommunity.org.au. Thank you all for your support <3!
We are a micro-community bakery based on the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate in Fitzroy. We work alongside local participants to mix, knead and shape our dough before it is baked in the magnificent Alan Scott wood-fired oven located at the heart of the community garden on the estate. Through these actions, we aim to provide affordable and nutritious bread to the community and foster a space for knowledge sharing.
To purchase some yummy sourdough bread, please click the 'shop' link above.
Orders close on Mondays at 9.30 am for Wednesday bakes of the same week. Please observe the date in the top right corner when viewing our online shopfront.
We offer weekly or fortnightly bread subscriptions with flexible start and finish times. Select your subscription option via the shop front or reach out to us for help setting this up. These also make great gifts for that foodie in your life!
You may notice that our pricing structure is a little different. The prices of our products are based on a pay as you feel sliding scale. We call this 'dough-for-dough'. For example, the sourdough loaves are priced at $4-$8, depending on what you can or would like to pay. We also have a 'dough-nation' product available if you would like to support the community bakery through a donation.
As a Community Bakery, our pricing structure helps to keep our products affordable and accessible, whilst giving those that can, the opportunity to pay a little more to help others enjoy yummy, sourdough bread! All money raised from High Rise bread sales goes back into the community bakery - paying for equipment and ingredients, maintaining affordable prices for locals, and supports the community bakery to reach more people. It also helps to support our community to keep sharing their bread-making knowledge, traditions, and stories at our weekly baking sessions and workshops.
